| GE GE1105P | CDR | X | X | This thing is junk. I tried 7 different brands. Imation, memorex, sony, philips, fujifilm, tdk,HP, nothing works on the cd-r. CD-RW I tried,Memorex, Fujifilm, HP. The HP would load and play the 1st track but would not play past that. | | Oritron 100, RCA RC5500P, Toshiba Portege 7000CT | X | X | X | I tried what were sold to me as pre-recorded CD-Rs. They have no label, are silver with a blue ring on top. When inserted in this DVD player which previously had played standard DVDs perfectly, the message came up 'wrong or bad disk' and now it produces the same message for all my regular DVDs and won't play anything. My RCA RV5500P reads them as 'no disk present but still plays regular disks. My Toshiba Portege Notebook plays regular disks perfectly but will not even bring up the movie window when the disk is inserted. | | GE1106 | X | U | U | | | Singer SGD-001 | CDR | CDRW | MP3 | This is one great player. For the price ($399 Australian)it performs great. It plays DVD, VCD, DVCD, SVCD, CVD, CDDA, CDI-FMV, CD, MP3 (!), CD-R and CD-RW. I used all kinds of CD-R media, haven't had one problem yet. Handles different VCD bitrates OK. The machine is REGION FREE, so it will play any disc. Just pop it in and hit play.

Singer is a sister company of Akai and Sansui. The same machine might be available in other countries (than Australia) under those brand names. Have a look out for this one if you are after a cheap "does anything" solution. |
